Arsenal legend Adams to coach Azerbaijani club

Ex-Portsmouth manager Tony Adams pictured during his side's Premier League game at Fulham's Craven Cottage ground in west London, January 31. Former Arsenal defender Adams has signed a deal to coach an obscure football club in the ex-Soviet republic of Azerbaijan, the club's president said.

Club president Tale Heydarov unveiled Adams as the new head coach of Gabala FC, ranked sixth in Azerbaijan's 12-team national league, at a press conference in the capital Baku.

"In order to realise the development strategy of FC Gabala we have engaged Tony Adams as head coach," Heydarov said.

About 200 kilometres (125 miles) north of Baku, Gabala is a small town mainly known as the home of a Russian radar station that was part of the Soviet Union's anti-missile early warning system.
