Leonardo not worried about future

AC Milan coach Leonardo insisted on Saturday that he is unconcerned about his future ahead of Sunday's crucial home Serie A clash against Lazio.

Milan sit joint second in the table but four points behind city rivals Inter Milan ahead of the weekend's games.

But things could have been so much better for the rossonero had they not picked up only a solitary point in their last two games.

Two victories at home to Napoli (1-1) and away to Parma (0-1) would have sent them top.

Instead they are facing a chase to catch Inter to avoid finishing the season empty-handed having been knocked out of Europe by Manchester United and lost in the Italian Cup in January.

Some believe the rookie coach is out of his depth but he batted away speculation about his future.

"I don't know what will happen next year and I'm not worried about it so instead I'm just thinking about today," he said.

"I spoke with the president (Italy prime minister Silvio Berlusconi) a week ago and since then I've read 10 different interpretations of the same interview.

"The truth is that I'm here to do well in eight games and my reality is my work and therefore I don't want to be sidetracked by other things."

But Milan need to get quickly back to winning ways and hope AS Roma do them a favour by beating Inter on Saturday night if they are to maintain an interest in the title with eight games remaining.

However, Leonardo points to the fact that they have actually closed the gap on Inter since the end of January.

"The important thing is to defend what we've done over the last eight games," he added.
