Lorient deepen Lyon's cup woe

Lyon's forward Lisandro Lopez(R) vies with Lorient's defender Sylvain Marchal during the French League Cup football match Lorient vs. Lyon on January 27, 2010 at the Moustoir Stadium, in Lorient.
Lyon's quest for silverware this season took a further blow when they were eliminated from the French League Cup at the quarter-final stage following a 1-0 loss at Lorient on Wednesday.
The decisive goal arrived in the fourth minute when Kevin Gameiro exploited hesitancy from Lyon's new defender Dejan Lovren to dispatch a crisp volley past Remy Vercoutre in the visitors' goal.
Claude Puel's Lyon were knocked out of the French Cup by Monaco on Sunday and are 11 points behind league leaders Bordeaux, while they will face the mighty Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.
There are two other ties on Wednesday, with Toulouse travelling to Ligue 2 Guingamp, surprise winners of last season's French Cup, while Marseille's clash with Lille opposes the fourth- and third-placed teams in the French top flight.
The remaining last-eight tie between second-tier Sedan and cup holders Bordeaux, who defeated Le Mans 3-2 in a delayed round of 16 game on Tuesday, will take place at Bordeaux's Stade Chaban-Delmas on February 2.
