Old Firm planning Boston clash

Celtic players celebrate scoring against Rangers during a Scottish Premier League match at Celtic Park, Glasgow in January 2010. Celtic and Rangers could face each other outside Glasgow for the first time under plans for a July meeting between the two arch rivals in Boston, Massachusetts.

Celtic are already pencilled in to play Manchester United in Toronto on July 16 or 17 while Rangers are considering pre-season games in Miami and New York.

That could facilitate an Old Firm encounter at the 70,000-seat Gillette Stadium which would provide a welcome injection of revenue for both the cash-strapped clubs.

A proposal to stage a Glasgow derby in Australia six years ago failed to materialise. Britain's Press Association reported that plans for the Boston meeting were at an early stage.
