Rooney fit for Milan clash

Wayne Rooney will be fit for Manchester United's Champions League clash with AC Milan here on Wednesday, United boss Alex Ferguson confirmed on the eve of the match.

The England forward had been a major doubt with a knee injury but came through training on Tuesday morning and is ready to be unleashed against the Italian giants, to the relief of his manager.

"Rooney's fit, I'm glad to say," said the United boss, who had predicted at the weekend that he would be obliged to start with Dimitar Berbatov as a lone striker.

"He has made a rapid improvement since Saturday morning when he was extremely doubtful but he's okay."

Rooney scored twice in the San Siro as United won the first leg of their second round tie with Milan 3-2.
