Rooney wants to end career at Man Utd

Manchester United's forward Wayne Rooney (L) celebrates after scoring in their English Premier League football match against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Wayne Rooney wants to spend the rest of his career at Manchester United and is ready to sign a new contract with the reigning European champions, he told a Sunday newspaper.

The Sunday Telegraph quoted Rooney, 23, as saying: "I am happy here and I'd sign a new contract at any time.

"I want to stay at this club for the rest of my career. I will sign an extension any time the club wants me to."

Rooney moved to Old Trafford from Everton for 26 million pounds in 2004 and still has three years remaining on his contract.

He played an instrumental role as United beat relegation-threatened Middlesbrough 2-0 on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of the league to six points, although Liverpool could cut the gap to three points if they beat Newcastle on Sunday.

Rooney is also expected to line up when United face Arsenal in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
