Wenger says only perfect Arsenal can take title

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says the only way the Gunners can win the English Premier League title is if they have a "perfect" finish to their season.

Arsenal, away to Birmingham on Sunday, are currently third in the table, two points behind leaders Manchester United and one adrift of second-placed Chelsea.

All three clubs have seven league games left this season and Wenger said on Thursday: "What we know is we have three teams in the race, and it will be down to the team which is the most consistent.

"We can only focus on our own performance because we know our route has to be perfect. To be perfect, it is important we focus on our performances," explained the Frenchman, whose team face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals next week.

"We needed some help from the other teams, but we know even that only works if we are consistent and can keep our momentum.

"We have created a fantastic momentum and a great belief within our squad, but the consistency of our run is the most important."

Arsenal do, though, have a worse goal difference, by seven, than their two rivals, although they could yet claw this back on the run-in.

"It could go to goal difference, but then let's make sure it does because that will mean we will be there," said Wenger. "But I think at the moment nobody knows about that.

"The one thing we know is that us winning our games will make it happen."
